ABOUT ME

Denis Simard

An involved leader, a man of heart and action

Community involvement

It was in 1991 that Denis Simard began his community involvement with the Association jeunesse fransaskoise (AJF).  It was there that he measured all the potential that the Fransaskois community could offer, a community filled with talent and charm and which offered plenty of activities where he could have fun and get involved. He was subsequently an actor in the Franskataires, a member of the MAT and  was part of the Collège Mathieu track and field team as both athlete and mascot (go Alouettes go!)

Currently he is the President of the Assemblée communautaire fransaskois, president of a group of 38 low-cost housing units in his neighborhood, Executive Director for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Saskatchewan and Executive Director of both the Eastview Community Center in his neighborhood and the Al Ritchie Community Association.

Then came the years of participation in the organization of projects such as the Fête fransaskoise or as president of the AJF where, together with other leaders of the time, he worked with conviction to include young people from new-immigrations or immersion schools in the organization's activities. All of these implications shaped the man and father he has become, one who puts his experience and his passion at the service of an open and inclusive Fransaskois community.

A strong and empathetic personality

On a more personal level, he grew up alongside a mother who, as you know, was a woman who was very involved in the Fransaskois community. She dragged him around during his youth from meeting to meeting. No doubt it was a good school.

Like others, even if we can say that life is good for him, he had his share of trials that forced him to review his deep values. Mourning his first daughter taught him a lot about himself and the important things in his life. The birth of his second daughter Roux, who has just celebrated her 3-year-old birthday, eases this pain a little and brings him back to values that make him a better person. We recognize in Denis his listening skills and his extraordinary ability to take action. Denis is a proud dad.

Recently, he completed his studies in the field of innovation and leadership in the non-profit sector. Also, he had the great honor of being recognized as Citizen of the Year for his work in the inclusion of people with disabilities in the various workplaces where he spends with pleasure and dedication almost everything his time. And most notably, he was just awarded the Queen's Jubilee medal this last year for his community development.

Fransaskois citizens are at the heart of his decisions!

WHAT GUIDES ME

Together everything is possible and change is inevitable

The biggest change I've experienced in these last years hasn't been any one thing that's rocking our community or even the global pandemic that affected us all. What transformed my thoughts as much as my values was the death of my little Izabelle and the birth of Roux. My two daughters have redefined the word community for me. You will understand that the Fransaskois community for a long time was my place of work, the place where I interacted with the world I love, my place of great conversation, but my goal was to live my day well and have a slight impact to improve the lot of those around me. With the arrival of my daughters, the community for me now represents the place where they have to live, to be educated, to have fun, to consume our culture, our artists and our writings. And if I'm being honest, it's where they'll find their loves and best friends. My vision is no longer for the benefit of my few passions, but rather so that together, my girls and I and you can build a community where she will have the best chance of living their best lives. I hope you want to help me build this community, this Fransaskois social project. I am ready to get involved and I invite you to do the same.
